BBQ and Vineyards
January 24, 2011
This weekend Mark and I had a rare day off…at the same time! We have been wanting to try a BBQ place not too far from us that has been featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network; The Salt Lick. So we dropped off Fiona and headed out to Driftwood, TX in search of BBQ and wine. We found both, and they were tasty!
Not sure what I was expecting a Texan vineyard to look like, but it wasn’t like this:
I’m looking forward to going back during spring or summer; to check out the other wineries in the area (we only made it to 2), ride the bike trails and eat more BBQ
Tea Party

With the new house I have room for a desk. And actual desk with an office chair and everything! Our old house was small and I worked in the dining room on our table, Mark worked in the dining room as well, and the dogs crates were in there, so it was a very crowded room that saw very little dining. Now, however I have a desk. My desk is in the playroom so that I can work while keeping an eye on Fiona while she plays behind me.
She got a fancy play kitchen from Santa and she spends many hours making soup and hosting tea parties. She often invites the dogs to her parties.
I think Tibi was hoping for some real food. Although I have often turned around to see Fiona shoving a stuffed kiwi into Tibi’s mouth, and Tibi tries to eat it.
I love that Fiona plays pretend. Its so cute the way she pours her tea and drinks it. She brings me cups and asks if I want tea. I always say yes because either way I’m taking the cup.
When she is done giving me tea, she makes sure the dogs get some too…
Yes I know, we are really lucky that Tibi loves Fiona and will do anything for her, including having a cup shoved on her nose so that she can drink her tea.
Its amazing that I get any work done when I have this kind of fun surrounding me.

My husband is the baby in his family, and his parents had his siblings spread out. So there is a large age gap between my husband and his oldest brother (14 years!). Add in that we waited until our late 20′s to have kids and his niece started much longer and this explains how our niece has a little boy the same age as Fiona.
The other day they came over for a playdate. He is such a sweet, mellow little boy.
Look at those baby blues!
He was such a fun guy to take photos of. And Fiona had a blast playing with her cousin.
Coming soon are tea party photos!

We are slowly settling in to our new place. Although this big of a move is a lot to get used to. We are a little farther away from everything then I am used to being. But the benefit is we have amazing sunsets. The kitchen/great room and our bedroom upstairs all face west. So while I’m making dinner I often get to watch the sun go down. Which of course means I get distracted, who wouldn’t with this view?
We are finally developing a routine as well. Playdate, gym, daycare, and work. I’ve been able to work alot more since we have moved which has been great. But I still take plenty of time to chase Fiona around and play.
The move has so far been great, even though I miss alot about the bay area. It will take me awhile to get used to things here, but eventually I know I will love it.
Port Lavaca

Over the weekend we took a break from work and from unpacking and headed out for some exploring. I’m a California girl and I’m used to having the ocean within a short drive. So to show me that the ocean wasn’t that far we went in search of it.
We headed south through central Texas and passed through exciting towns such as Cement, or Luling. Actually Luling was kinda interesting in a “wtf” kinda way. Luling in an oil town, but to boost tourism they decided to make the oil pumps pretty. I’m not sure the flamingo driving the car on the oil pumps makes it pretty but it certainly caught my attention.
A couple hours later we hit the Texas coast.
We wandered around the downtown area of Port Lavaca and even ran into the mayor (he runs an antique store on the downtown strip).
I’m looking forward to hitting the beach once it warms up, and we aren’t wearing several layers. And here is one of Fiona, because lets all be honest that is who all of you come here to see
